Well, are you ready for some Jamboree? Dig out those old comfortable shoes you pulled off after last year’s Smithville Jamboree and tossed in the back of the closet. Also, don’t forget that folding chair that you felt good sitting in and maybe a hand-held fan to cool you off, and a hat to top off the occasion. Gonna be quite a shindig going on in Smithville, June 30 and July 1 that you don’t want to miss out on. It’s just that good! Red carpet to be laid out in style to say welcome you all to our town. Preparations going on in all the various shops so everyone gets in on a lot of bargains. You can browse and shop till you drop as the saying goes. Crafts of every description to catch your fancy and food, yes, a lot of food to devour. We all gotta eat haven’t we? So manty talented people in our area and plus more coming from out of town to sing and play so many different instruments. Always a treat to see who is the "Best of the Best" of all those that perform. Make it a point to tell your friends about the 46th Annual Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree and Crafts Festival that will be going on June 30 and July .
Sure loved Reed Vanderpool’s article on drag racing that went on way back when, or as I call them, the good ole days. "Aubrey" loved to drag race and I’ve got a couple of trophys he won that, of course, I treasure. Reed’s dad, Wayne, and Aubrey were good friends. They sure could spin a few yarns, when they got together. Wayne was the "Shade Tree Mechanic" on the CB radio as I recall. When Aubrey needed one of our vehicles to be worked on, he would call Wayne to do the job. Heard Aubrey one night tell Wayne on the phone he thought about calling a mechanic, then he thought no, I’ll just call Wayne. I could only imagine what was said by Wayne on the other end of the conversation.
This was so typical of Aubrey and Wayne and them both enjoying every moment of it. If it’s allowed in heaven, they’re probably still at it with one another trying to out talk the other no doubt.
July 4th right around the corner. May you have a safe and beautiful holiday with family and friends?
Don’t forget June 28th "Customer Appreciation Day" at the Smithville Review.
