Scenes of springtime are around our area now. Blooming of redbud trees, white Bradford pears (which don't produce any fruit) and lots of spring flowers---daffodils and more means that it's getting time to start mowing. This is also Holy Week with church services.
First Methodist will host luncheons every day at noon followed with a brief service. Their Maundy Service is Thursday with foot washing and Holy Communion at 7 p.m. The Good Friday service is Friday also at 7 p.m.
DeKalb Schools will observe their spring break beginning on Good Friday, March 25. They will then be out the following week March 28-April 1. Smithville Elementary will have their Easter egg hunt on Thursday, March 24.
It was a busy weekend with several funerals and the Atnip anniversary. Sympathy to the families of Violet Cripps and Betty Wilson. I attended the 50th anniversary of
Guylene and Dr. Robert Roy Atnip. My grandparents and his grandparents lived next door to each other for many, many years on East Main Street. A large crowd attended.
I got to visit with Elaine and Larry Duewer from Livingston. Elaine used to come over and visit her grandmother, Mrs. Lassie Atnip and I would visit my grandmother,
Zona Lockhart and we enjoyed playing together.
Sympathy again to Kathy Carpenter and her family in the death of her mother, Betty Gunter.
Get-well wishes to Lora Webb, Sarah Brown,Tom Hill, Bertha McBride, Holly Forkner, Jean Meyers, Bob Pettis, Laura Duhot, Mildred Jenkins, Charlotte Bandy, Larry Tatum and Charmaine Mitchell.
Belated birthday greetings to my nephew, Robin Driver. Other March birthdays listed next week.
