Alexandria Police had a busy past month, making several arrests for drugs and assaults.
On January 26, 43-year-old Brandon Smith of Cooper Street, Smithville, was charged with manufacture, delivery, sale, or possession of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers stopped a vehicle on High Street for a traffic violation. As officers were speaking with the driver, (Smith) authorities say he appeared nervous and refused to allow the officer to search his vehicle. At that time K-9 Manci was deployed and as the officer approached the vehicle.
Smith allegedly admitted to drug paraphernalia in his vehicle that he knew the K-9 would detect. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 1.69 grams of a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine and other items consistent with the use of narcotics. His court date was set for February 8 and bond was set at $21,500.
That same day, 35-year-old Kayla Sanders of Foster Road, Smithville, was charged with manufacture, delivery, sale, or possession of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers stopped a vehicle on High Street for a traffic violation. Sanders was the passenger of the vehicle. Upon speaking with her and a search of items in her possession revealed approximately .26 grams of a white powdery substance believed to be fentanyl and other items consistent with the use of narcotics. Her bond was set at $21,500 and will appear in court on February 8.
On January 29, 39-year-old Ian Simpson of Burt Burgeon Road, Woodbury, was charged with simple possession of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine).
An officer stopped Simpson for a traffic violation on Nashville Highway. As officers were speaking with Simpson, they found him to be in possession of a small amount of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. His court date is set for February 15.
On February 3, 20-year-old Kyle Martin of Anthony Avenue, Smithville, was charged with simple possession of schedule VI and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and came into contact with Martin. As officers were speaking with Martin, they allegedly detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After further investigation, Martin was found to be in possession of a small amount of a green leafy substance (believed to be marijuana) and a grinder. His court date is set for February 15.
That same day, 37-year-old Gary Tate of Sunset Point Road, McMinnville, was charged with drug paraphernalia.
Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Nashville Highway. Tate, who was a passenger in the vehicle, initially refused to identify himself to officers. Officers then conducted a search of the vehicle and found items consistent with the use of narcotics in a bag belonging to the suspect, then identified as Gary Tate. His court date was set for February 15.
On February 5, 44-year-old Tammy Rose of Hall Road, Alexandria, was charged with simple possession of a schedule VI drug (marijuana) and drug paraphernalia.
Officers responded to a domestic dispute on Hall Road in Alexandria. As officers were speaking with Rose, a bag containing a small amount of green leafy substance and drug paraphernalia was recovered. Police say that Rose did admit the items belonged to her. Her court date is set for February 15.
Shelia Zaruba, 60, of Hall Road, Alexandria, was charged with domestic assault. Police say that after speaking with the victim and documenting injuries, it was determined that Zaruba was the primary aggressor. Her bond was set at $6,500 and will be in court on February 15.
On February 14, 27-year-old Duvwon Baker of Locust Street, Alexandria, was charged with domestic assault.
Officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute on Locust Street, and upon arrival, made contact with Baker and determined that he had been in a physical altercation with his girlfriend. Police say the victim did sustain injuries after he grabbed her and pushed her down.
Following his arrest, it was discovered that he was wanted for a failure to appear out of DeKalb County. His bond was set at $3,956.50 and a count date of February 22.
On February 17, 23-year-old Jhordaan Fuentes-Juarez of E. Main Street, Smithville, was charged with simple possession of a schedule VI drug (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers stopped Fuentes-Juarez for a traffic violation on Nashville Highway. As the officer was speaking with Fuentes-Juarez they detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and items consistent with the use of narcotics. His court date was set for March 7.
The Town of Alexandria Police Department has also announced that a public access camera has been installed on the Town Square. “We hope that residents and tourist utilize this equipment to have a real time look at what is going on in Alexandria.
