It was a light week for the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department, with only a couple of arrests reported.

The arrest stems from a case on January 24, 2024. Parker appeared in court on August 21.

On August 25, 39-year-old Amanda Alice Atnip of Jennings Lane, Smithville, was arrested for theft of property and resisting arrest. She is under an $8,500 bond and will be in court on September 12.

Sheriff Ray said that a sheriff’s detective received a report of possible stolen kayaks on A. B. Frazier Road. Upon arrival, the detective found Atnip and four of the missing kayaks listed in the report. The estimated value of $1,000 for five kayaks.

Authorities say that Atnip advised that she had taken the kayak sometime around the 4th of July. When told she was going to be placed under arrest, law enforcement say she jerked her arm away from the detective. She was then taken to the ground and place in custody.
