An Alexandria man likely blew his chance for father of the year honors this past week when he was found passed out behind the wheel of his car with his 10-month-old son in the passenger seat.
The father, Ralph Edward McIntyre, Jr., 29, of Alexandria is charged with drunk driving and child neglect. He is set to appear in court Feb. 14 to answer to the misdemeanor counts.
He was arrested after lawmen were sent to West Main Street in Alexandria to investigate a report of a man being passed out in his vehicle. When officers arrived they found McIntyre asleep behind the wheel.
“His foot was on the brake and the car was in gear,” revealed Sheriff Patrick Ray of what deputies found when they looked inside the vehicle. They also found his 10-month-old child in the passenger seat.
“He submitted to but performed poorly on field sobriety tests,” the sheriff noted, adding that when questioned, McIntyre admitted to snorting the drug Klonopin earlier in the day. The drug is prescribed for anxiety and seizure disorders and has a listed of side effect of causing drowsiness. The drugs is made to be taken by pill, not snorted through the nose.
