The Caney Fork Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution recently announced the Good Citizen Winners for Smith County High School and DeKalb County High School. Each year one student is selected from high schools across the United States as the Good Citizen of the senior class. Caney Fork Chapter honors students from 4 area high schools: Smith County, Gordonsville, Jackson County and DeKalb County.
The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the following qualities:
• Dependability (truthfulness, honesty, punctuality, etc.)
• Service (cooperation, helpfulness, responsibility, etc.)
• Leadership (personality, self-control, initiative, etc.)
• Patriotism (unselfish loyalty to American ideals)
The Smith County High School winner is Kayla Barrett, daughter of Bryant Barrett and Kim Silcox. The DeKalb County High School Good Citizen is Logan Lewis Starkey, son of William and the late Tammy Starkey. Logan’s essay was also chosen to enter in the scholarship contest. Although he did not win at the district level, the judges complimented the writing style, grammar and thoughts expressed in his essay. Congratulations to both of these deserving students!
