Public Works Committee Meeting, April 18

The Public Works Committee will be meeting April 18, in the lower courtroom to discuss the convience sites closed on Sundays.

 

Coffee for Veterans 

DeKalb County Veteran Service Office, along with Gentiva Hospice, the Marine Corps League and American Legion, will be hosting “Coffee for Veterans April 20 at 8:00 a.m. on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse. Coffee and refreshments will be provided. Coffee for Veterans is open to any veteran or family of a veteran, past or present. County VSO Bill Rutherford will be present to answer questions and help veterans with the many services that are available.

Coffee for Veterans will be a once-a-month event rotating between Smithville and Alexandria. The next event will be held May 18th at the Alexandria Community Center.

 

 

Narcissist Support Group

A 12-step support group for narcissist abuse will be held every Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Community Complex in the art room. This is a free support group and you are encouraged to attend if you are, or have been, a victim of narcissist abuse.

Are you raising a relative child or need housing assistance? Cannady Cemetery Association Meeting, April 15

Annual Meeting for Banks Cemetery

The annual meeting for Banks Cemetery in DeKalb County will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 @ 4 p.m. at Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church. All parties interested in the cemetery are invited and encouraged to attend.

 

Warren County Genealogical & Historical Association Meeting, April 15

The meeting will be held Saturday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at the Warren County Administration Building, 201 Locust Street, McMinnvilee, TN 37110. In the early voting room. The program will be From a Basement to the World! History of B & P Lamp Supply.

 

American Legion & Ladies’ Auxillary, April 20th

The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 20 at 6 p.m. at the Commnity Center at Snow Hill. There will be a meal enjoyed before the meeting. Chicken tenders and potato logs from Kilgores will be the main dish. All members are invited. Anyone attending needs to bring a compatiable side dish. And/or dessert.

 

DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The DeKalb Prevention Coalition encourages DeKalb County residents to take part in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public will be provided the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. (Sites cannot accept liquids, needles or sharp instruments, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Grief Support Meetings

Grief can be one of the hardest processes you’ll ever have to go through. But you don’t have to do it alone. Come join them for a completely FREE, 8-week program to help you process your grief in a healthy manner.

They will be having day and evening classes for you to choose from or come to both sessions. There’s no commitment or obligation to be at every session.

Day Sessions-Thursdays, at 1 p.m.
Night Sessions-Mondays, at 6 p.m.

Veterans Service Officer Ready to Assist

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran's Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service.

Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610. DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this service.

UCHRA Commodity Distribution

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, April 27, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA Office. Sign-up wil be available at the distribution site.

DCHS to Host Special Needs Prom

DeKalb County High School is making plans for this year’s “Blast from the Past” special needs prom to be hosted by the DCHS Service Society May 5. Sponsors are needed to help support the event “We need sponsors for our special needs prom. The money we raise will be used to feed the students a full meal, buy plates and utensils, buy each honored guest a crown or tiara, and decorate the cafeteria where the prom will be held,” said Sara Young, Mathematics Instructor and Service Society Sponsor. Homecoming and Revival at Malone's Chapel Baptist Church

You are invited to the Homecoming and dinner at the Malone's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday May 7th @10 a.m. with the Worship Service @ 11 a.m. with Brother Seth Presley and lunch to follow the service on the church grounds. School Calendar for 2022-23 Year

The school calendar is set for the 2022-23 yearDeKalb County students and teachers will have a full week off for fall break October 17-21, Thanksgiving November 21-25, and a two week break for Christmas December 21 to January 4. December 20 will be an abbreviated day. Students will return to school after the Christmas holiday on January 5, 2023. Schools will also be closed for Labor Day September 5, Dr. Martin Luther King Day January 16, President’s Day February 20, and Good Friday April 7. The last day of school will be May 24, 2023. Report cards will be issued at all schools on October 10, January 9, March 14, and May 24. Parent teacher conferences will be held at DCHS from 3-6 p.m. on October 10 and March 14 and at all the other schools, DWS, NES, SES, and DMS from 3-6 p.m. on October 13 and March 16.
