







DeKalb County deputies made several arrests last week, working cases of assaults and drugs.
On August 6, 32-year-old Eddie Lee Smith of Old Mill Hill Road, Dowelltown, was charged with aggravated assault. He is under a $3,500 bond and he is due to appear in court on August 31.
A sheriff’s department deputy responded to a home on Toad Road in reference to a physical domestic call. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the caller who advised that her boyfriend, Smith, had strangled her to the point that she could not breathe. The woman then alleged that he pushed her into the kitchen sink.
On August 7, 50-year-old Dwayne Edward Reeder Jr. of Old Highway 53, Alexandria, was arrested for driving under the influence. He is due in court on August 24
A deputy responded to the area of Nashville Highway and Dry Creek Road for a welfare check on a male subject reportedly slumped over in a vehicle on the side of the road. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Reeder, slumped over in the driver’s seat.
The deputy had to wake Reeder, then asked him to step out of the vehicle. He was reported as being unsteady on his feet, having restrictive pupils, and having admitted to smoking meth the day before, as well as taking Suboxone that day. Reeder allegedly refused to perform field sobriety tasks when asked.
On August 11, 38-year-old Brandon Keith Thomas of Magnus Road, McMinnville, was charged with methamphetamine manufacture, deliver, sell or possess. He is under a $20,000 bond and will appear in court on August 24.
Thomas was allegedly found to be in possession of 4.05 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be meth, contained in two separate baggies.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Thomas entered unapproved area owned by the DeKalb County government at the end of Moore Taylor Road. Thomas reportedly exited his vehicle and ran behind a building. A detective on the scene located baggies of meth a few feet away from his vehicle and in the path he was on as he ran behind the building.
On August 13, 32-year-old Justin Clay Penuel of O’Conner Street, Smithville, was arrested for vandalism and theft of property. He is under a $10,000 bond and he will be in court on August 31
On June 19, authorities responded to O’Conner Street on a report of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, they made contact with a 1993 Chevy truck reported stolen from DeKalb County. Penuel was found in possession of the vehicle and the title. The truck had been altered with spray paint in an attempt to keep it from being noticed.
On August 14, 23-year-old Shaun David Lee West was arrested for public intoxication. He is under a $1,500 bond and is due in court on August 31.
A deputy was investigating a harassment complaint and made contact with West at the Village Market on Congress Boulevard. Authorities say that West was agitated and acting in a threatening behavior. West allegedly admitted to threatening to kill a man and that would continue to do so.
West also allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol and to being drunk. Deputies reported smelling an odor of an intoxicate coming from West’s person. He was placed in custody due to him being a danger to the public and himself.
