Local emergency workers and law enforcement responded to the scene of a devastating two-vehicle crash last weekend that claimed one local woman and seriously injured another. The crash occurred on Highway 70 between Dowelltown and Liberty, and resulted in one victim being airlifted from the scene.
According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, on Saturday, October 19, at 3:26 pm, 34-year-old Felicia Moore was traveling east on Highway 70 in a 2017 Lexus 350. At the same time, 53-year-old Nicola D. Foutch was traveling west in a 2008 Dodge Dakota.
Authorities say that Moore’s vehicle crossed the turning lane and drifted into the left westbound lane, into the path of Foutch’s truck. The vehicles collided nearly head on, with the Lexus coming to rest on the eastbound shoulder of the highway, while the Dakota came to rest in the westbound lane.
Firefighters with the DeKalb Fire Department, deputies with the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department, DeKalb EMS, and troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol rushed to the scene.
Foutch reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from her vehicle during the crash. She was located under her truck when emergency crews arrived. She was transported to the Liberty Fire Station, where she was flown to the hospital by helicopter in serious condition.
Moore was killed at the scene and had to be extricated from her vehicle by DeKalb Fire extrication unit. Two pets were also killed inside Moore’s vehicle.
