Dirt Bike couldn't out run law
Byron Wilson

A man on a dirt bike led Smithville Police on a wild chase Sunday night but couldn’t out run the law.

Byron Ray Wilson, 43, was arrested and charged with evading arrest and reckless endangerment. He was also cited for possession of methamphetamine, speeding, driving on suspended license, failure to obey traffic device, financial responsibility laws and use of a dirt bike on roadway.

While on routine patrol, a Smithville Police officer saw a dirt bike traveling on South Mountain Street with a non-working tail light. The officer tried to stop the bike, but the driver, Wilson, refused to stop. He fled through several roads in the city limits reaching a speed up to 59 mph in a 40 mph zone. He also traveled off the road through the yard of the Webb House Retirement Center and then again through a yard on South College Street. During his run from police, he ran a total of 12 stop signs. The pursuit continued until he fell off his bike near the post office, where he got up and ran. He was caught by police in the grassy area near Dr. Starla Meigs’ office and taken into custody. He was found in possession of 6.6 grams of methamphetamine.

His bond was set at $15,000, and he is to appear in court for the charges on June 18, 2020.
