Last Minute Toy Shop Registration
Pre-registration for the 2024 Last Minute Toy Shop will be held December 3 thru 6 from 4-7pm in the cafeteria of the DeKalb County Complex. You must provide ID, proof of residency, why help is needed and birth certificates for each child. Children of DeKalb County ages birth thru 18 and still in school are eligible. You will be given an appointment for shopping day which will be held on December 14, 2024. The following are DeKalb County Christmas Festivities and Parades as follows:  Saturday, November 30, 2024 Old Timers’ Country Christmas Event on the Alexandria Square 2-6pm live entertainment, food trucks and vendors. Saturday, December 7, 2024 Christmas Marketplace at the Community Complex Auditorium from 8-2pm shop vendors for unique gift ideas Last Minute Toy Shop fundraiser: Saturday, December 7, 2024 Smithville Christmas Parade at 4pm; Saturday, December 7, 2024 Christmas on the Square and Live Windows downtown Smithville beginning at 5:30 p.m.; Sunday, December 8, 2024 Liberty Christmas Parade beginning at 2pm. Lineup at 1pm at Salem Baptist Church – hot cocoa and cookies for everyone; Saturday, December 14, 2024 Alexandria Christmas Parade beginning at 1pm on West Mains Street, Alexandria.

 

Regifting Event
Let your children join Patch Work for its 10th Annual Regifting Event on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the DeKalb County Complex. Children ages four to 12 years-old shop free for the parents/caregivers. Children help assemble Blessing Bags for local Headstart Children. Each child also gets to decorate a quilt square which will be assembled at a later date and donated to an individual who may be challenged with health issues. Children can pre-register or register the day of the event. All children who shop will also receive a goody bag. Life of Christ Christmas Drive-Thru
Brush Creek Baptist Church will hold a Life of Christ Christmas Drive-Thru on December 7 & 8, 2024 from 6-8pm. The church is located at 26 School House Circle, Brush Creek. Free Christmas Shopping Day

God’s Grace Ministry will have its free Christmas Shopping Day on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 8am until noon.

 

Coat and Toy Drive

Cash Express has launched its 19th annual coat and toy drive. They accepting toys, coats, shoes (washable) clothing and non-perishable food items at many drop-off locations throughout the county, as well as, their office at 409 East Broad Street, Smithville.. All donations must be received by Dec. 15 in order to have them delivered in time for Christmas. They will also hold a bake sale on December 3 where all money will go toward the drive.

 

Parkerson’s Support Group

The Parkinson’s support group will have their next meeting on November 12, 2024. Please note the change which is due to Caney Fork Baptist Church being a polling place. Our speaker will be Rock Steady Boxing Coach Todd Godwin. We will then have breakout sessions. Call Laura at (941)319-0309 with any questions.

 

FCE Meetings

The FCE will be meeting the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the DeKalb County Complex in the Motlow Conference room. Everyone is invited to attend.

 

Free Meals for Seniors

Alexandria Activity Center is offering a free congregate meal to anyone age 60 and older at 11:00 AM Monday through Friday.  Please call 615-529-2928 or text 931-259-6568 a day in advance to reserve your meal.  We are located at 330 Edgewood St, Alexandria, TN 37012 (just past the fairgrounds on the right). The Center opens at 8:00AM.  We offer free daily activities including card games, shooting pool, puzzles, arts & crafts, etc.

Veterans Service Officer Ready To Assist

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran’s Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service. Officer Erica Degni is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. She is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by calling 615-597-3003. DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this
