A fight at a local convenience store resulted in the arrest of one man. Authorities say the altercation ended up putting the public in danger as the perpetrator attempted to run over a couple.
DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray told the Smithville Review that 39-year-old Nathan Joe Trapp of Magness Road, Smithville, was arrested on May 8, for reckless endangerment, and two counts of aggravated assault.
Authorities say that on May 7, Trapp caused another man to fear imminent bodily injury while using a weapon and his vehicle.
A deputy responded to DeKalb Market on a report of a fight between two males with a weapon involved. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the victim as well as Trapp. A verbal argument between the two men had taken place when Trapp allegedly went to his red Nissan truck and retrieved a large flashlight and threatened to hit the victim and his girlfriend.
A physical altercation began and the victim was able to hold Trapp down for some time, before letting him up. Trapp then allegedly jumped into his truck as the victim and his girlfriend were walking away. Trapp accelerated at a high rate of speed, attempting to hit the victim with his vehicle.
After almost striking the couple, Trapp then allegedly turned around and accelerated again, almost hitting the pair again.
Sheriff Ray said that the location of the incident was a gas station, open to the public, where other members of the public were present during the incident. Trapp was driving erratically across the parking lot and placed members of the public in danger of bodily harm.
Trapp is under a $60,000 bond and is to appear in court on May 26
On May 2, a man wanted on several charges was placed in custody. Sheriff Ray said that 42-year-old Aubrey Glenn Rigsby of Bethel Road, Smithville, is charged with driving on a suspended driver’s license (7th offense), two counts of evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and violation of probation.
On February 11, 2022, a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a maroon Cadillac operated by Rigsby. Authorities say that Rigsby had an active arrest warrant against him for a violation of probation, and a check of his driving history showed that he had a suspended driver’s license with six prior convictions.
Rigsby allegedly failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, passing multiple vehicles with a female passenger in the vehicle. Officials say that Rigsby put several people in danger of serious bodily injury or death.
On February 18, 2022, a deputy was patrolling Pea Ridge Road when he noticed a male subject in a front yard that appeared to be Rigsby. When the deputy turned into the driveway, Rigsby took off running into the woods behind the residence. The owner of the residence confirmed that the subject was Rigsby.
Sheriff Ray said that Rigsby was in jail in another county and was only recently arrested locally. He is under a $25,500 bond and is due to appear in court on May 19.
