An early morning blaze claimed a local home last week despite firefighters’ efforts to combat the fire. At 2:25 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, the DeKalb County Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire off Cookeville Highway in Silver Point. The occupants reported they awoke and discovered heavy fire in a bathroom.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire showing from the structure and through the roof. Crews worked to gain control of the fire and prevented the fire from spreading to an adjacent detached garage.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined.
Cookeville Highway, Liberty, Main, and Midway stations responded, along with county-wide personnel, the Rehab unit, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Dept, and DeKalb County Emergency Medical Services.
