An early morning fire on Thursday destroyed a home on Prater Road with a couple, Craig Asberry and his wife, escaping harm by breaking and jumping out of a window. Central dispatch received the call at 4:51 a.m. The home was owned by Delane Taylor. According to County Fire Chief Donny Green the couple awoke to intense smoke in their bedroom and found the fire upon opening the door to the living. Apparently the fire started from a cloth chair in the living room which was in front of a thermostat controlled electric wall heater.

The following morning, Friday, a mobile home at Kings Court Circle occupied by Jason Moore was consumed by fire.

According to Chief Green, Moore had gone to bed after cooking later awaking to a room filled with smoke. He found the fire coming from the kitchen stove. He was unsuccessful in extinguishing the blaze and ran next door to call for help.

The DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames. The trailer could not be saved but firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to another mobile home only eight feet away where a handicapped resident was living. The occupant was safely evacuated by neighbors and members of the sheriff’s department.
