Fire swept through a local home last week, destroying the structure and all of if contents before fire crews could arrive. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze, keeping it from spreading in the nearby woods.
According to DeKalb County Fire Chief Donny Green, firefighters received the call too late to save the home.
“At approximately 1:40 a.m., Thursday morning, DeKalb County firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on Wilson Drive in the Holmes Creek community,” Chief Green reported.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found that the home was fully involved and had already collapsed. Fire had spread into the adjacent wooded area and firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire without any other property damage,” said Chief Green.
Chief Green reported that the occupants were burning some debris outside the home a few hours earlier and the fire spread to a collapsed deck attached to the home. They awoke to find the entire exterior side of their home on fire. All occupants escaped without injury.
Main Station Engine 59, Cookeville Highway Engine 61, and Liberty Engine 65 responded to the scene, along with DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and DeKalb EMS.
