In an effort to help with feeding students while DeKalb County schools are temporarily closed, Director of Schools Patrick Cripps told the Review efforts will begin next Monday, March 23, 2020.

“Local churches came to us wanting to help,” said Director Cripps. “Food can be picked up at Smithville First Baptist Life Enrichment Center and the DeKalb West School next Monday from 10:30 a.m. until noon.

“We do have to follow federal guidelines meaning the student must be in the car. This will be a drive-up, with no one getting out of the vehicle, but the student is required to be in the car,” he continued.

The following week pick-up days will be on Monday and Thursday at the same locations and same times.

“We will be able to provide two meals per day beginning Monday, March 30,” said Director Cripps. “On that Monday, students will receive breakfast and lunch for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, they will receive breakfast and lunch for Thursday and Friday.

“Again, we have to follow state guidelines which requires the student to be in the car at each food distribution,” he reiterated.
