Free Meals for Kids Thursday

The DeKalb County School Nutrition Department will host a free meal pick up for all kids up to age 18 on Thursday, July 18 at DeKalb County High School from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Please come to the ramp in front of the high school cafeteria and receive 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches to take home at no cost. Kids must be present in the car to receive the meals. If you have any questions, please call the Nutrition Office at 615-215-2104

 

American Legion& Ladies Auxiliary, July 18

The American Legion and Ladies’ Auxiliary will meet Thursday, July 18th at 6p.m. There will be a meal of hamburgers and hot dogs before the meeting. All members are welcome and encouraged to come.

Students will attend for 90 minutes (abbreviated day from 7:45 a.m. until 9:15 a.m.). to sign up at their schools.

The first full day of school will be Monday, August 5.

Professional Development at the individual schools will be July 29-31.

Friday, August 2 will be an administrative day for teachers only. Students will not attend on Friday, August 2.

The 2024-25 DeKalb County School Calendar is as follows:

DeKalb County students and teachers will have a full week off for fall break October 14-18, Thanksgiving November 25-29, and spring break March 24-28, and a two-week winter break for Christmas December 23 to January 3. December 20 will be an abbreviated day (7:45 a.m.-9:15 a.m.). Students will return to school after the Christmas holiday on January 6, 2025. Schools will also be closed for Labor Day September 2, Dr. Martin Luther King Day January 20, President’s Day February 17, Good Friday. April 18, and Monday, April 21. The last day of school will be May 23, 2025 (abbreviated 7:45 a.m.-9:15 a.m.). May 22 will be an administrative day.

Report cards will be issued at all schools on October 8, December 20, January 9, March 18, and May 23.

Parent teacher conferences will be held at all schools from 3-6 p.m. on October 10 and March 20.

 

Early Voting Dates and Times Announced for August 1 Elections

The DeKalb County Election Commission has expanded and made more uniform the hours of early voting for the upcoming August 1 elections.

The early voting period begins July 12 through July 27.

Sample Ballot

Early voters may cast ballots at the courthouse in Smithville during a six-hour period on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Tuesdays from 12 noon until 6 p.m. Early voting on Saturdays will be from 9 a.m. until 12 noon as in the past. No early voting on Sundays.

In Alexandria, early voting will take place on two dates, Tuesday July 16 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 23 from 12 noon until 6 p.m. at the Kenneth Sandlin Center on the DeKalb County Fairgrounds.

Previously early voting periods during the week in Smithville were for four hours at a time and three hours on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the election commission has released the sample ballot for the elections on Thursday, August 1 which will include the DeKalb County General Election, Municipal Elections in Smithville, Dowelltown, and Alexandria, and the Tennessee Republican and Democratic Primaries.

The Voter Registration Deadline is Tuesday, July 2. The deadline to update an address on voter registrations is Friday, July 26.

Officer Erica Degni is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. Parkinson’s Support Group, August 6

The nest meeting got the Parkinson’s support group will be Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10 a.m. Our speaker will be Marsha Bowman, PT, DPT, WCS about the benefits of exercise for those with Parkinson’s disease. The meeting will be held on July 20, 2024 at 2p.m. at 201 Locust St., McMinnville, TN 37110. The program will be Show & Tell. Share items from your family.

The FCE will be meeting the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the DeKalb County Complex in the Motlow Conference room. Everyone is invited to attend.
