A local man arrested for evading and drug charges three years ago made a plea last week in DeKalb County Criminal Court.
Jere Raymond Green, 25, of Smithville pled guilty to possession of a schedule II drug (methamphetamine) over 0.5 grams with intent to sell, a Class-B felony. A hearing will be held October 13, to determine the manner of service. He faces an eight-year sentence, and was fined $2,000.
All other charges against him were dismissed and he was given jail credit from August 22, 2022, to September 6, 2022, and from August 5, 2021, to November 11, 2021.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Green was arrested October 1, 2020, after a brief car chase. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession controlled sub/sale or delivery/mfg., theft of property, meth/mfg/del/dell/poss, evading arrest and no valid driver’s license.
On October 1, 2020, a sheriff’s department detective saw Green driving a gold GMC Yukon, and had knowledge that he did not have a valid driver’s license. When the detective initiated the blue lights, Green refused to stop and began to evade. The short chase ended on South Mountain Street.
Once stopped Green got out of the vehicle and threw something into the woods. Once retrieved the item turned out to be a stolen Glock 48 9-millimeter. Illegal narcotics were also recovered. A white bag was recovered just outside of the vehicle which contained a glass pipe, a baggie containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine weighing 3.75 grams and a baggie containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana weighing 8. 84 grams.
He also had $4,755 in cash on him which was seized as proceeds from drug transactions.
