An Alabama man will now face burglary and theft charges dating back to 2015.
Derik Gulley, 36 of New Hope, Alabama was arrested Dec. 16 and charged with aggravated burglary, theft of property and fugitive of Justice. His bond was set at $85,000, and he is to appear in court Jan. 30, 2020
The charges come from warrants issued in 2015 where Gulley allegedly entered a residence on Pea Ridge Road by prying open the basement door and took several items of jewelry. The jewelry was sold to a pawn shop in Murfreesboro but were recovered. Gulley has been incarcerated in multiple jails, but he was transported by a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy from Lincoln County. The fugitive from justice charge is from Gulley being wanted out of Huntsville, Alabama for burglarizing a vehicle. He will be extradited after DeKalb County charges and are satisfied.
James Dillan Matthews, 25, of Smithville was arrested on Dec. 17, and charged with assault. His bond was set at $3,500, and he is to appear in court Jan. 9, 2020.
Matthews, while incarcerated in the DeKalb County Jail, hit another man in the head multiple times as well as punched him. The incident was captured on video. He was charged by the jail’s disciplinary board with assault.
Richard Leon McDaniel, Jr., 44, of Lancaster was arrested on Dec. 20 and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. His bond was set at $5,000.
On Dec. 16, 2019 a DeKalb County Deputy went to McDaniel’s home for a court ordered property recovery. While at his residence the deputy noticed a loaded Taurus 38 Special. McDaniel admitted he was a convicted felon. He is to appear in court Jan. 9, 2020 on this charge.
