Whorton Spring Cemetery To all relatives of Whorton Spring Cemetery. This is a notice to ALL relatives of Whorton Spring Cemetery as of this day forward 3-16-22. All items on ground next to a grave site will be removed so that a proper mowing and weed eating can be done. All withered and dead flowers will be removed for proper appearance due to numerous complaints.

Veterans Service Officer Ready to Assist

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran's Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service.

Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610.

DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this service.

Meetings will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Matthews Episcopal Church.

 

Early Voting

The DeKalb County Election Commission has set the early voting hours for the May primaries early voting begins April 13 and runs through April 28 and will be held at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Smithville and limited hours at the Fairgrounds in Alexandria. Early voting hours in Smithville are as follows: Mondays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursdays 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to Noon. Early voting hours in Alexandria will be Tuesday April 19th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday April 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. All properly registered voters can vote early at either location. Early voting will not be held on Good Friday.

 

Closings, April 15

The DeKalb County Courthouse and County offices, the County Complex County Offices and the Senior Center will be closed Friday, April 15, 2022 in observance of Good Friday. There will be no early voting Friday, April 15th.

 

L.B.C. & J, closed April 15

The L.B. C. & J. Development Corporation Head Start Centers and the Central Office will be closed Friday, April 15, 2022 in observance of the Good Friday Holiday. The Head Start Centers and office will re-open on April 18, 2022.

 

Kingdom Hall, April 15

The annual commemoration of the death of Jesus Christ will be held April 15, 2022. All in the county are invited. It is Friday, April 15, 2022 at 7 p.m. for Spanish speakers and 8:30 p.m. for English speakers. Both of these gatherings will be held in person at local Kingdom halls with live speakers. No collections are ever taken.

 

Cannady Cemetery Association Meeting, April 16

Smithville Church of God, April 17

The Smithville Church of God will again have EASTER IN THE PARK at Green Brook Park on Sunday, April 17. Admission begins at 10 a.m. and everything is free! The event will include a children's church service, bingo, Easter egg hunt, face painting, food, horses, message, and prayer tent. The Easter egg hunt will be for children from toddlers to 12 year olds.

American Legion & Ladies Auxiliary Meeting, April 21

The meeting will be held on April 21 at 6 p.m. at the building at Snow Hill. There will be a meal of hamburgers and hot dogs enjoyed before the meeting. All members and spouses ae invited. If attending, please bring a compatible dish and or/dessert.

 

UCHRA, April 26

The Upper Cumberland Human Resources Agency will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA office. Sign-up will be available at the distribution site. The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, sex, color, national origin, religion, or disability in admission to, access to, or operations of its programs, services, or activities.

 

Jefferson Cemetery, May 1

Jefferson Cemetery will have its Decoration on Sunday, May1, 2022. With business meeting at 11 a.m. and a fellowship meal to follow.
