A Smithville man has been arrested for rape, while a Sparta man had been charged with aggravated child abuse.

Carlos Herrera, 38, of Smithville was arrested for rape on June 24. Herrera went to the victim’s home in the early hours of June 22 uninvited. While there he entered the bedroom of the victim and sate on the bed. The victim tried to push him away, but he did assault her. Once he was finished she was able to get dressed and flee. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court July 9.

A sealed indictment was returned for the arrest of Charles David Woody, 31, for aggravated child abuse/ On May 9, 2020 Woody intentionally inflicted serious bodily injury upon a four year-old child causing a bone fracture. Woody was arrested and taken to the DeKalb County Jail. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is to appear in court July 14.
