A non-profit organization, Live and Let Live, has been working for quite a while on a solution for DeKalb’s homeless population. Just acquiring its non-profit status a few weeks ago, the group hurriedly prepared and opened the shelter prior to the current bad weather. With the community and several volunteers rallying to get the location ready, local homeless had shelter before the temps hit single digits and the snow began to fall Sunday night.
The shelter is located in the rear of the Vitality Fit, LLC building owned by Tyler Cantrell. Private entrance is thru a side door nearest O’Reilly Auto Parts. The physical address is 656-B West Broad.
Volunteers were busy Sunday getting the shelter ready to open with food and supplies. The shelter is temporarily open to anyone who doesn’t have a place to shelter and keep warm, and it’s being operated under the supervision of Live and Let Live volunteers.
