Of course, the Smithville Parade was followed by many horseback riders.

The Smithville Christmas Parade finally got underway last week, after being postponed twice previously due to rainy weather. The event was held on Monday evening, December 11, making a rare nighttime appearance. Despite the event being held on a weekday, there was a large turnout in spectators and participants.

Kids of all ages lined the parade route as vintage autos, floats, local musicians and dancers, and even some animals were in the procession. Of course, candy was much sought after by the children along the streets.

The parade made its was from South Congress Boulevard to the Smithville Square, and also featured local elected officials, pageant winners, and even old Saint Nick himself. The DCHS Band was on hand to entertain the crowd with some holiday music.

Bubba’s Auction House won first place for the best float with their snow globe themed entry, while Driver’s Boat and RV Storage took second place with their pontoon boat float. MTR Equipment Rentals captured third place.

The Spirit award went to the Autism Awareness entry with their festively decorated Dodge pickup truck. There were many antique and vintage cars and trucks making their way through the parade.

Santa Clause brought up the rear of the parade, followed by many horseback riders, waving to the kids.
