Liberty Mule Restored After Vandalism
Liberty Mule

The iconic Liberty Mule got a face lift last week after vandals repainted the painting with the colors of the LGBTQ rainbow flag along with writing saying “Love each other,” and the “peace” symbol. The Liberty Mule has become the symbol of the town of Liberty, and has actually been painted different colors over the years. The mule has been red, black, and even red, white, and blue, during the country’s bicentennial celebration. The Liberty Mule has been repainted to its most recognized black color scheme. No one knows for sure what the mule stands for, many believing it to be a depiction of a comic character from the early 20th century, an advertisement for a chewing tobacco, or a symbol for the DeKalb County Fair’s Mule Show which was very popular in days past.
