The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department had a fairly easy week last week, making only a couple of arrests.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, on June 9, 52-year-old Leanna Lynn Hawkins of Fairground Road, Alexandria, was arrested for domestic assault. She is under a $2,500 bond and is due in court on June 22.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy responded to Fairground Road in Alexandria on a report of a verbal domestic dispute. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a male who stated that he and Hawkins got into an argument, when he went outside to get away from her.
The man reported that Hawkins was being aggressive, throwing things out of the house towards the man. He said that he was afraid that she was going to hit him. Hawkins was found to be the primary aggressor and was placed in custody.
That same day, 49-year-old John Allen Judkins Jr. who is reported as homeless in Smithville, was charged with public intoxication and introduction of contraband into penal institution. He is under a $9,000 bond and he is set to appear in court on June 29.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy responded to Ferrell Road on a report of a break in in progress. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Judkins, sitting in a chair of the back porch of the home and causing a disturbance. The deputy asked Judkins if he knew the people that lived at the residence, and the man reportedly answered, “No.” Judkins was then detained and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.
During this time, authorities say Judkins appeared to be intoxicated on some type of narcotics. He was reportedly unsteady on his feet, jittery, and profusely sweating.
The deputy then spoke to the owners of the residence who advised that Judkins never tried to enter the home, but knocked on their back door and sat in their porch chair. Judkins was then placed in custody and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
At the jail, a correctional officer noticed Judkins place something under his bed. As correctional officers enter his cell, Judkins was asked what he had hidden under his bed. Judkins reportedly responded by saying it was a bottle.
During a search of Judkins’ cell, a piece of toilet paper was found folded under his bunk mat. Inside, a small baggy was found containing a blue powdery substance.
