A local pooch is in the spotlight, after joining the running for America's Favorite Pet, a contest put on for an organization that helps and rehabilitates orphaned animals, and shelters homeless dogs and cats.
Tripp, a 16-month-old Pomeranian owned by Sheri Spradley of Smithville, is currently in sixth place for America's Favorite Pet, a contest that is in support of PAWS.
Since 1967, PAWS has united more than 130,000 cats and dogs with loving families, cared for more than 140,000 sick, injured and orphaned wild animals, and made the world a better place for countless others through outreach, education and advocacy.
Tripp is currently in sixth place and is in the running for a $10,000 grand prize and being featured on the cover of Modern Dog magazine. Votes can be made for free, or multiple votes can be made through donations to the organization. You can vote for Tripp at americasfavpet.com/2024/tripp-a16a
Tripp has been through quite an ordeal in his short life after biting into a power cord at six months old, and nearly dying. He was rushed to the vet, unresponsive with burns to his mouth and wasn't given much hope of survival. But the little guy is a survivor and managed to bounce back after two nights in intensive care.
Today, the lively pup loves to run a play. Spradley also owns Tripp, and his mother, Maddie.
PAWS is the nonprofit beneficiary of funds raised by Colossal through the America’s Favorite Pet Competition. This is an annual competition where participants enlist the help of their family, friends, and followers to cast online votes for their beloved furry (and some not-so-furry) friends in the hopes of earning the grand prize—a feature on the cover of Modern Cat or Modern Dog and $10,000 each.
America’s Favorite Pet is operated as part of a fundraising campaign for DTCare, a United States 501(c)(3) public charity organization. Donations raised from Donation Votes cast during this competition go directly to DTCare, which will subsequently grant the donations (minus competition fees, variable costs, and a nominal percentage retained by DTCare) to PAWS at the end of the competition. The donation will support PAWS’ mission to help cats, dogs, and wild animals thrive in happy, healthy homes or in their natural habitats.
“We are beyond thrilled to have PAWS as our partner for one of Colossal’s flagship competitions and a personal favorite of mine,” said Colossal CEO Mary Hagen. “The hard work, commitment, and dedication they show to support and care for animals is nothing short of amazing. We feel truly privileged to work with such wonderful people in this capacity and to celebrate animals across the world through our America’s Favorite Pet competition.”
