Man offers $250 bounty for litter bugs

Jon McHann is tired of people dumping their trash on his Pine Orchard Road property and he's posted a reward.

A Pine Orchard man is sick and tired of cleaning up someone else’s mess and he’s putting his money where his mouth is and offering a $250 reward for information on who is dumping junk on his property.

“It’s not good for the creek, the environment or Smithville,” said Jon McHann who is putting up $250 of his own money as bounty on whoever is dumping trash on his property near 416 Pine Orchard road. “This is cash money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is doing the illegal dumping out here.”

For McHann, the problem isn’t new. “This is been going on for three years,” he said. “Instead of going to dump their stuff for free at the dump, they dump it on me and I have to clean it up.”

The trash has included household garbage that has even contained someone’s mail and car keys. However, as of late things have gotten worse. “Someone has dumped furniture over the incline and down toward the creek,” he said. “I’ll have to pay someone to get that out before the couch busts and has its insides going everywhere. So, not only is it costing me work, it’s costing me money.”

Anyone with information should contact Sheriff Patrick Ray. McHann noted he has informed the sheriff of the bounty he is offering and hopes someone will take advantage of the cash reward.
