A Williamson County man was almost sucked over Center Hill Dam Friday afternoon when his bass boat got a little too close to the structure.
Investigators say the man was fishing near the base of the massive dam and apparently didn’t realize the spill gates were open as part of the flood resolution effort to balance water upstream and downstream after the recent floods. Before he could react, his bass boat was turned on its side as the water rushed through the spill gates. The movement threw him into the water. He was able to grab the side of his boat and pull himself atop the overturned vessel. He was spotted by another boater who told workers at Edgar Evins State Park. They were able to use a pontoon boat to rescue him from his predicament. His boat was saved by TWRA agents who were able to pull it from his entrapment at the spillway’s edge.
