A motorcyclist led Tennessee Highway Patrol on a lengthy chase through DeKalb into Warren County before crashing early Friday morning. Mark Petty, 48, racked up several charges after the crazy chase in extremely foggy conditions.
THP Lieutenant Dewaine Jennings told the Review he attempted to initiate a stop on a 2009 Suzuki Sport Bike on Allen Ferry Road for a headlight violation. As he turned around to pursue the bike, he noticed there was no tag. The bike refused to stop and traveled by the Smithville Golf Course on Riley Avenue back onto Allen Ferry Road. From there the chase went to Highway 56 North with Petty turning around at Buckner’s Chapel. Now on Highway 56 South, the bike went into the school zone turning onto Smith Road, Midway Road and onto Highway 70. Still in pursuit, Lieutenant Jennings said Petty took another round and went the same route again before speeding through town. The chase then went down Short Mountain Highway with Petty eventually turning down Judd Piercer Hill Road into Warren County. He flew through coming out Green Hill Road onto Highway 56 North. A turn down Seven Springs Road led to Capshaw Road where he crashed at the intersection of Highway 56 and Capshaw.
Lieutenant Jennings said Petty received minor injuries from the crash and requested Warren County EMS to the scene, but Petty refused treatment. He was transported back into DeKalb County to the jail where DeKalb EMS was called to take him to the ER for treatment.
While at the ER, Petty fled on foot trying to escape yet again. Smithville City Police located him and took him into custody.
Petty was charged with evading arrest on motor vehicle, reckless endangerment with a motor vehicle, driving on revoked license, DUI, and violation of implied consent. He was also written several citations for traffic offenses.
