The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department has been very busy over the past few weeks, making several arrests for drugs, DUI, and child abuse.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on October 21, 24-year-old Dakota Lee Fathera of High Street, Alexandria, was arrested for methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is under a $5,000 bond and he is due in court on November 7.
A co-defendant was also arrested at the scene, a passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Megan Michelle Madden of Fisher Avenue, Smithville, was also charged with for methamphetamine manufacture deliver sell or possess. She is under a $2,500 bond and she will be in court on November 7.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a red Dodge Journey and upon receiving consent to search the vehicle the deputy located a blue bag with a clear baggy with a crystal-like substance believed to be meth with a weight of .82 grams. Neither Fathera or Madden would claim ownership so both were charged.
A black bag containing a glass pipe with a crystal-like substance believed to be meth was also found, with Fathera claiming possession of that.
The following day, 50-year-old Nathan Lee Pack of Cookeville was arrested for five counts of violation of the sex offender registry, and resisting arrest. He is under a $7,500 bond and he will be in court November 7.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a blue Hyundai and when the vehicle stopped, the passenger door flew open and Pack took off running. Officers announced themselves multiple times and ordered him to stop, but he refused. After a lengthy foot pursuit, he was taken into custody. When caught, he was ordered to the ground and to place his hands behind his back, but he refused. Pack was allegedly fleeing because he had numerous warrants against him out of DeKalb and Putnam Counties.
On October 23, 28-year-old Miguel Arroyo, Jr. of Lebanon was arrested for a violation of an order of protection. His bond is $3,500 and he will be in court November 7.
According to Sheriff Ray, deputies responded to the Floating Mill Campground on reports that Arroyo had gotten into an argument and allegedly made threats against her regarding a firearm. An NCIC background check confirmed there was an order of protection on Arroyo. The no contact order based on an aggravated assault arrest against him in Wilson County. Officers recovered a 5.56/223 AR rifle in his possession.
On October 25, 55-year-old John Michael Turner, Sr. of AB Frazier Road, Smithville, was arrested for aggravated assault. He is under a $7,500 bond and is due in court on November 13.
A deputy responded to AB Frazier Road in reference to someone being struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival the deputy made contact with a male subject who advised that Turner had come onto his property with his truck and struck girlfriend’s vehicle. When the male went outside to stop Turner, a verbal altercation ensued and Turner allegedly struck the male victim in a blue Nissan Frontier putting him in fear seriously bodily injury.
That same day, 51-year-old Scottie Lynn Sykes of Allens Ferry Road, Smithville, was arrested for domestic assault. He is under a $3,500 bond and will be in court on November 7.
A deputy responded to a possible domestic on Allens Ferry Road. Upon arrival the deputy made contact with a female who reported that she and Sykes had been in an argument when Sykes allegedly threw a Mountain Dew bottle at her, striking her in the forehead causing a gash.
Also that day, 23-year-old Anna Danielle Skelton of Old Baxter Road, Silver Point, was arrested for domestic assault. She is under a $3,500 bond and be in court November 7.
Sheriff Ray said a deputy responded to Midway Road on a report of a physical domestic in the middle of the road. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Skelton and a male. Skelton advised that she and her boyfriend had been arguing when she pushed and hit him. The man confirmed that Skelton had struck him and pinched him on the arm. He had a red and purple mark on his left forearm.
Later, 40-year-old Victor Alfonso Nava of Sunnyview Lane, Cookeville, was arrested on two counts of child abuse or neglect, driving under the influence, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and having no valid driver license. He is under a $26,000 bond and will be in court on November 14.
A deputy patrolling South Mountain Street noticed a black BMW cross the dotted line and traveling at a high rate of speed. Authorities say Nava was traveling up to 80 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour speed zone.
The officer turned on his emergency lights and siren signaling for the driver to pull over and while he slowed Nava initially did not stop and passed several roads and parking lots. After a short pursuit Nava finally stopped.
Nava allegedly smelled of alcohol with red and glossy eyes, and was unsteady on his feet. He allegedly admitted to having consumed two or three drinks earlier. He submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks.
Two children, ages eight-months-old and three-years-old, were passengers in the vehicle with him. Also found inside the vehicle were three empty containers of alcohol still cold to the touch. A background check through central dispatch revealed that Nava had no driver license, only an ID.
On October 27, 34-year-old Timothy Ryan Lawson of Poss Road, Smithville, was arrested for domestic assault. His bond is $3,500 and he will be in court November 14.
A deputy responded to Poss Road for a physical domestic. Upon arrival he spoke with a female who advised that she and her husband, Lawson, had got into an argument that turned physical. Lawson allegedly struck her in the face causing her nose to bleed and made a place on the inside of her lip.
That same day, 42-year-old Jimmy Joel Farris of Page Drive, Smithville, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine manufacture, deliver, sell or possess. He is under a $3,500 bond and he will be in court November 14.
A deputy was patrolling Midway Road when he noticed a red minibike driving down the road. Due to it being an unauthorized vehicle, the deputy stopped the bike and spoke with the operator, Farris. After giving the officer consent to search his person, and located inside his right-side pants coin pocket was a clear baggie with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine with a baggie weight of.5 grams.
Also that day, 56-year-old Curtis Lee Adams of Midway Road, Smithville, was arrested for driving on a suspended license. He is under a $5,000 bond and will be in court on November 14.
A deputy spotted Adams operating a motor vehicle on the roadway. With prior knowledge that his license was suspended, the deputy conducted a traffic stop. A check through dispatch confirmed that his license was suspended for failure to appear on April 7, 2024. Adams was arrested on September 30 for the same offense.
Also on October 27, 28-year-old Preston Scott Whiteaker, reported as homeless in Smithville, was arrested for driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. He is under a $5,000 bond and his court date is November 14.
A deputy was patrolling Nashville Highway when he ran a tag on a Chevy Impala that came back as expired. The deputy made contact with Whiteaker whose driver’s license was reported suspended for failure to pay fines on December 31, 2019. Whitaker’s speech and movements were allegedly slow. His eyes were red and he smelled of marijuana/hemp. He admitted to having smoked THCA prior to operating a vehicle. He submitted to but performed poorly on field sobriety tasks.
On October 28, 35-year-old Jose Rolando Delafuente of Jennings Lane, Smithville, was arrested driving under the influence. His bond is $2,500 and he will be in court on November 14.
A deputy was traveling north on South Congress Boulevard when he spotted a red Chevrolet Silverado leave its lane of travel several times. The vehicle was also traveling at 50 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour speed zone. The officer pulled over the automobile at Mapco Express and spoke with the driver, Delafuente who smelled of alcohol. His eyes were red and watery and his speech and body movements were slow. He submitted to but performed poorly on field sobriety tasks. Delafuente admitted to having consumed alcohol prior to driving.
