A Smithville man has landed behind bars after allegedly hitting his son in the head and grabbing his daughter by the throat.

According to an arrest warrant, 36-year-old Jonathon Lee Pedigo of Frazier Street, Smithville, is charged with child abuse and aggravated child abuse. He is under a $50,000 bond.

On Saturday, October 1, a Smithville Police officer was dispatched to Frazier Street on a report of possible child abuse in progress.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with witnesses in the case that reported that Pedigo struck his eight-year-old child in the head numerous times with his hand. When his 12-year-old daughter reportedly attempted to leave the residence because she was scared, when Pedigo allegedly grabbed her by the throat in an attempt to keep her from leaving the home.

Pedigo was placed in custody and charged with child abuse and aggravated child abuse.
