The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department made four arrests last week, for violations of orders of protection, assault, and DUI.
On December 6, 25-year-old Zachary Jacob Poss of The Loop Circle, Smithville, was charged with domestic assault. He in under a $2,500 bond and is due in court on January 6, 2022.
According to Sheriff Ray, a deputy was dispatched to The Loop Circle for a call concerning an unwanted guest. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a female who stated that she and her boyfriend, Poss, had been in a verbal argument about a phone, when the argument turned physical.
The female reported that Poss drug her off the bed and hit her in the mouth. The female reportedly had a cut on her arm, on the inside of her mouth, and on her bottom lip.
The same day 50-year-old Richard Brandon Turner of Fisher Avenue, Smithville, was arrested for violation of bond conditions.
DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray said that a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department deputy went to Fisher Avenue to try to find Turner, due to active warrants against the man. The deputy located Turner at the back door of the residence, and according to officials he was highly intoxicated.
Through an NCIC check, it was learned that there was an active bond condition between Turner and the occupant of the residence. Turner was supposed to stay away from the home and the protected person.
On December 7, 36-year-old Michael Frederick Teachout of Walker Drive, Smithville, was arrested for a violation of an order of protection. He is under a $3,500 bond and is set to appear in court on January 13, 2022.
Sheriff Ray said that Teachout was in the presence of a protected female at an address on Luttrell Avenue in Smithville. A Sheriff’s Department detective witnessed Teachout in the company of the protected female.
A check with Central Dispatch confirmed that Teachout was under an order of protection with the female being the petitioner. A deputy responded to the scene and placed Teachout into custody. Teachout was previously arrested on November 9, 2021, for a violation of the same order of protection.
On December 11, 46-year-old Tamara Nichole Smith of Carpenter Street, Memphis, was charged driving under the influence as well as other charges. She is under a $2,500 bond and her court date is set for January 6.
Sheriff Ray said that a deputy observed a vehicle on West Broad Street in Smithville with no headlights or taillights. Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy made contact with Smith, who had slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet.
The deputy performed standardized field sobriety tests on Smith, of which she performed poorly. She was also cited for the light law, no insurance, misuse of registration, and driving while suspended.
