Caleb Rigsby left a key piece of evidence for lawmen when he fled the scene of his crash.

A Lebanon man was in such a hurry to run from the law that he ran off and left his wallet in the vehicle he had crashed while leading them on a high speed pursuit.

The suspect, Caleb Isaiah Rigsby, 33, is charged with felony evading arrest and is due for arraignment in court on Nov. 9. He was on probation at the time so he will remain behind bars until his arraignment on violation of probation charges.

Sheriff’s deputies observed Rigsby driving well above the speed limit on Nashville Highway.

“The car overtook two other vehicles in the turning lane near the Clover Leaf Restaurant at speeds over 85 miles per hour,” Sheriff Patrick Ray reported, noting the 2002 Nissan Altima turned onto Dry Creek Road and was able to give the officer the shake somewhere around Dry Creek Baptist Church.

The officer discontinued the chase but continued traveling the road until he found the car wrecked near Pea Ridge Road. While the driver had already run away, he left behind incriminating evidence.

“The deputy found a wallet containing Mr. Rigsby’s driver license,” the sheriff revealed, noting it was found in the side compartment of the car door.

Adding to the incrimination, one of Rigsby’s family members call dispatch to report they had found out Rigsby had crashed his car while running from the law.

He was taken into custody later on the charge.
