A man involved in a fatal crash in Liberty in 2018 has been sentenced in DeKalb County Criminal Court.
Officials say that 32-year-old Raymond Rollins has plead guilty to vehicular homicide and received a six year sentence, of which he must serve at least 30 percent. Rollins has been given 904 days of time served.
The charge stems from a two-car crash that happened on Highway 70 in Liberty on December 13, 2018, where 28 year-old Amanda L. Smith lost her life. The 1998 Ford Mustang, which Rollins and Smith were in struck a 2014 Honda Accord driven by 37-year-old Charlie R. Holman of Sparta.
The Mustang was traveling west in the eastbound lanes and struck Holman’s vehicle, which was eastbound in the right hand lane. As Holman attempted to swerve to avoid a collision, the right front end of the Mustang struck the Honda on the passenger side.
Both Rollins and Holman sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash. CPR was performed on Smith at the scene and later transported her to Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Rollins was originally charged with two alternative counts of vehicular homicide, DUI, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment.
