Several Arrest Were Made By Smithville Police

The Smithville Police Department has been busy over the past month, making several arrests including those for drugs, theft, and driving under the influence.

According to Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins, on June 7, 47-year-old Linda Michelle Neville of Smith Road, and 53-year-old Fredrick Michael Hughes of Barnes Mill Road, were each charged with manufacture, sell, or deliver and possession of a schedule II drug meth, manufacture, sell, or deliver and possession of fentanyl, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Neville was also charged with simple possession of marijuana, and she was issued a citation for driving on a revoked license and no insurance.

While on patrol, an officer spotted a grey Nissan Sentra being driven by Neville, and having prior knowledge that Neville’s license was revoked for a previous DUI, the officer conducted a traffic stop. A computer check verified the license was revoked, and consent to search was given for the vehicle.

Police say that on Hughes, a passenger, 26 grams of what was believed to be fentanyl, 10.2 grams of what is believed to be meth, several items of drug paraphernalia, and $4,788 in cash were found.

A search of Neville produced five grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, 1.1 grams of meth, five grams of fentanyl, and $180 in cash.

Several boxes of opened and unopened needles, with Neville and Hughes’ names on them, were also located. Both were arrested and authorities seized the 2019 Nissan Sentra Neville was driving.

Neville is under a $121,000 bond, while Hughes’ bond is set at $160,000. Both are due in court on June 20.

The day before, 27-year-old Bobby Ray Murphy of Dale Ridge Road, Dowelltown, was cited for theft of property. Chief Collins said that Murphy was observed through video surveillance taking an unattended purse from a table in Greenbrook Park and taking valuables totaling $670. Murphy’s court date is set for July 18.

On June 10, Jamaal Allen Rakeem Pleasant, 23, of McMinnville, was charged manufacture deliver sell or possess of a schedule II drug, a schedule VI drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, and cited for improper tag lights and an open container.

Also charged in the case was 34-year-old Bianca Jean Chisam, who is charged with two counts of manufacture deliver sell or possess of a schedule II drug, a schedule VI drug, a schedule V drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both are due in court on June 27.

According to Chief Collins, while on patrol an officer pulled over a 2013 Nissan Altima driven by Pleasant.  During the stop, the officer reported that he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. After being asked to step out of the vehicle, Pleasant allegedly told the officer of a bag containing a green leafy substance was in the door compartment.

After speaking to the passenger, Chisam, said told officers that she had marijuana, hydro’s, neuraptine, and meth in her bag. While searching the bag, the officer found 10 hydrocodone pills, 10 neuraptine pills, 3.3 grams of meth, 15 grams of marijuana, and several items of drug paraphernalia. Found in a cup holder were 1.9 grams of meth along with baggies and scales. Police seized a total of 37 grams of marijuana, 5.2 grams of meth, 10 hydro’s, 10 gabapentin, and $138 in cash.

Pleasant is under a $34,500 bond, while bond for Chisam is $62,000. The 2013 Nissan Altima driven by Pleasant was also seized.

On June 8, 59-year-old John Dilberti of Murfreesboro was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

Chief Collins said that an officer pulled over a vehicle on East Broad Street due to a light law violation. While speaking to the driver, Dilberti, the officer noticed that the man’s speech was slurred, and that he had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. He also seemed to be in a state of confusion.

Dilberti allegedly stated that he had consumed several alcoholic beverages prior to the traffic stop. He submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks. The officer also recovered a fully loaded pistol from the driver’s side front door.

Dilberti’s is under a $4,000 bond and he was set to appear in court on July 11.

On June 10, 62-year-old Barry Mitchell of Smithville was charged with disorderly conduct and assault.

Chief Collins stated that officers were dispatched to Rama Inn on East Broad Street due to a complaint of an unwanted person. Upon arrival, officers spoke with staff who reported that Mitchell had approached and then began yelling and cussing at a female motel employee. Mitchell also allegedly threatened to assault her sexually.

The female left immediately and called 911. Officers found Mitchell to be acting in a very erratic and threatening manner toward officers and motel staff. He was taken into custody and given an $8,000 bond. His court date is June 27.
