The Smithville Fire Department responded to a warehouse fire last week at Star Manufacturing in Smithville. Authorities say that the sprinkler system at the warehouse helped contain the blaze until fire crews could arrive.
According to Smithville Fire Chief Charlie Parker, on Friday at around 7:30 a.m. Friday E-911 dispatchers received a call reporting a blaze at Star Manufacturing. The Smithville Fire Department, officers with the Smithville Police Department, and a unit with DeKalb EMS responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered some loaded pallets and boxes on fire inside the warehouse. Chief Parker said it is believed that the fire began from an overhead ceiling heater at the facility. He said the sprinkler system help keep the flames down until fire crews could extinguish the blaze.
The building suffered some minor smoke and heat damage, and some of the merchandise also sustained some heat damage as well.
Fire crews were on the scene until around 10:00 a.m. No injuries were reported.
