Smithville PD Reports Arrests

The Smithville Police Department has been busy, making several arrests including those for DUI, drugs, and even a stolen car.

Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins reported that on September 3, 65-year-old Ricky Tramel of Smithville was arrested for theft. His bond is set to $8,000, and he is to appear in court September 12.

Officers responded to a local car dealership in reference to a stolen vehicle. Officers reviewed camera footage and developed Tramel as a suspect. Tramel was later stopped in the stolen vehicle. He was taken into custody.

That same day, 49-year-old Darrell Crook of Smithville was arrested for domestic assault. His bond was set to $3,500, and he is to appear in court September 12.

During a call, officers found Crook had gotten into an argument with his mother over her medication. The argument turned physical and officers found evidence of assault on the victim. He was placed into custody.

Shaun Soloman, 40, of North Carolina was cited for simple possession after officers responded to a traffic accident. They allegedly smelled marijuana coming from his person. Upon searching Soloman, a green leafy substance was found on his person believed to be marijuana. He is set to appear in court September 19, 2024.

On September 4, Daniel Jose, 42, of McMinnville was arrested for DUI. He was also cited for financial responsibility and driving on roadways laned for traffic. His bond is set for $2,500, and he is set to appear on September 19.

An officer conducted a traffic stop for failure to maintain lane of travel. As the officer was talking to the driver, Jose, he allegedly had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. Jose performed poorly on all sobriety tasks and he was taken into custody.

Also that day, Dustin Summers, 32, of Smithville was arrested for public intoxication, possession of schedule II, possession of handgun while under the influence, tampering with evidence, and violation of an order of protection. His bond is set for $29,500, and he is to appear in court on September 12.

Officers were dispatched to a call in reference to a male entering multiple vehicles. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male that matched the description. Officers were talking with Summers when they noticed several signs of impairment.

While officers were doing a routine pat down for weapons, they located a loaded Glock .48 pistol in Summers’ waist band. Officers also found an AR-15 in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

During further investigating they found Summers to have an active order of protection, prohibiting him from being in possession of any firearms. Summers also attempted to throw a black bag that contained a baggie of off-white residue, that when field tested, came back positive for fentanyl. Summers was placed into custody.

 

Also that day, Kurtis Hanson, 43, of Smithville was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest. His bond is set at $5,500, and he is to appear in court September 19.

Officers responded to a call in reference to an intoxicated person. Upon arrival they found Hanson in the driveway. While speaking to him, they noticed a strong odor of alcohol and very slurred speech. Hanson became belligerent and uncooperative.

Officers gave Hanson several verbal commands in which he refused. As officers were attempting to place Hanson under arrest, he resisted, resulting in officers having to take him to the ground to take control. He was placed into custody.

On September 7, 52-year-old Leslie Haley of Smithville was arrested for indecent exposure and public intoxication. Her bond was set to $5,000, and she is set to appear in court September 12.

Officers responded to a call of an unwanted guest and upon arrival noticed Haley was very unsteady on her feet and had a strong odor of alcohol. Haley allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol and while speaking with officers pulled her shirt up exposing herself to the public. She was placed in custody.

That same day, Jackie Goff, 40, of Smithville was arrested for possession of meth and drug paraphernalia. She was also cited for driving in wrong lane of travel and driving while in possession of methamphetamine. Her bond is set at $52,000, and she is to appear in court September 19.

During a traffic stop, Goff, was found in possession of 7.95 grams of a clear crystal substance which tested positive for methamphetamine. Also, officers recovered a clear glass pipe covered in crystal-like substance. She was taken into custody.

On September 9, 38-year-old Memory Staggs and 29-year-old Earnest Dodd Jr., both of Smithville, were arrested for criminal trespass and aggravated criminal littering. Each bond is set to $7,500, and are set to appear in court September 26.

Officers were summoned to a wooded property in reference to a large homeless camp being made without consent. Officers gave Staggs and Dodd a verbal warning to clean up and vacate the property within four days or they would be charged.

Officers returned four days later and found Staggs and Dodd still there and no effort had been made to clean up the property. Officers also charged the pair with aggravated criminal littering due to the amount of garbage still on the property.

On September 14, Lance Heatherly, 21, of Smithville was arrested for domestic assault and resisting arrest. His bond is set for $8,500 and he is set to appear October 3.

Officers responded to a call in reference to a domestic in progress, and found physical evidence of an assault. Police allege Heatherly was the primary aggressor. When officers advised Heatherly he was under arrest, he told officers he was not going to jail and physically resisted being handcuffed. He was placed in custody.
