Smithville Police Make Arrests

On December 12, 28-year-old Amber Cheyenne Caldwell of Parkway Drive was cited for simple possession. Police were dispatched to 600 East Broad Street in reference to an overdose call. On arrival the officer made contact with Caldwell on the floor and not breathing.

CPR and Narcan was administered and Caldwell came to, but then refused medical treatment. A clear crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine and a white powdery substance believed to be Fentanyl was found on the counter.

On December 20, 38-year-old Michael Brandon Redmon was arrested for public intoxication. Redmon was inside Caney Fork Electric Company allegedly causing a disturbance by yelling at the employees and consistently staring at employees to reasonably cause fear.

On police arrival, police say Redmon was acting erratic and had signs of intoxication. He had slurred speech and he was struggling to keep his eyes open. He was arrested for his and the public’s safety.

William Eugene Sizemore, 31, of South College Street was cited on December 26 for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say that Sizemore did willingly and knowingly commit the offense when police responded to an overdose at Magnolia Inn and found a needle that had been used for heroin injection.

Two days later, 33-year-old Misty Nicole Cuevas of Earl Ave was arrested for domestic assault. Police responded to a domestic situation and upon investigation it was discovered that Cuevas and the victim were involved in a verbal argument in the driveway. When the victim was walking away, Cuevas allegedly pushed him, leaving marks (swelling, redness & cuts) on his left ear.

That same day, 41-year-old Tommy Jerome Bates of Foster Road was arrested for public Intoxication and 911 Calls in Non-Emergency Situations. Officers were dispatched to a 911 call from someone that was walking down the road. Central Dispatch then informed them it was Tommy Bates, and he started to yell and cuss at the dispatchers. Bates then hung up and called back to 911 and started yelling and cussing the dispatchers again.

Once officers made contact with Bates, they noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person and that he was carrying an open beer. As the officers were trying to place him in custody, he began to try to chug the rest of the beer. Bates did not have an emergency when he called 911 and he has been warned several times in the past about calling 911 for no reason.

On December 31, 55-year-old Robert Orin Nannie was arrested public intoxication and theft of property. Police responded to Village Market in reference to a shoplifting call. Police made contact with Nannie who had a strong odor of alcohol on his person, slurred speech, and unsteady on his feet. Upon investigation, it was discovered Nannie had taken two Twisted teas and Monster Coffee.

Richard Brandon Turner, 51, of Fisher Avenue was arrested January 3 for violation of an order of protection and resisting arrest. Police responded to a domestic situation that upon making contact with the parties involved, found to be verbal only.

Turner was found at the residence and it was discovered there is an active order of protection where he is the respondent and the victim is the other party at the residence. Once confirmed by dispatch, the officers attempted to place Turner under arrest and he physically resisted until the officers were able to get him to the ground and place the handcuffs on him and escort him to the jail.

On January 5, 60-year-old David Ray Johnson was arrested theft of property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespassing. Police responded to a theft at Wal-Mart and informed that the subject, identified as Johnson, was in the parking lot.

Johnson was detained for the investigation and upon consent to search, the stolen items were found in his possession. Johnson was carrying a black bag and inside, approx. 5.3 grams of a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine was located inside a pill bottle with his name on it. A glass pipe with burnt residue, a metal pipe with burnt residue, believed to be marijuana and a butane lighter were also located in the bag.

On January 12, 2019, Johnson was trespassed from Wal-Mart and signed an agreement prohibiting him from being on the property or inside the store.

On January 14, 54-year-old Michael Lynn Vance was arrested for violation of an order of protection and cited for simple possession. Police were dispatched to a residence on Andrew Street for a 911 hang up call. The officer did make contact with Vance and another party and was informed they had been arguing.

The officer ran both parties for warrants. The officer was informed an active Order of Protection is in effect and Vance is not supposed to be around the other party. Upon search incident to arrest, the officer did find 21 orange capsules believed to be Gabapentin in his left front pocket.
