The Town of Liberty has called a special meeting for Saturday, October 19, at 10 a.m., at the Town Hall to discuss a new Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN) tower planned for the new E-911 radio system in DeKalb County. The tower is proposed at the new Liberty Fire Station and officials say it is needed to ensure the safety of law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, and other emergency agencies.

According to Liberty Mayor Audrey Martin, County Mayor Matt Adcock, 911 Director Brad Mullinax, Clay Whitehead, and a representative from the state will be on hand to explain the new system and answer all questions pertaining to the tower. The meeting is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.

County Mayor Adcock also sent out a letter to help explain the need for the TACN tower.

“It is evident that this project is of utmost importance in providing stable communications for our emergency services. The local governments, county and municipalities, have taken a commitment to join the TACN system and state infrastructure. It is critical that we support the improvements and upgrades to this system and infrastructure to better serve our citizens in the communities that they dwell amongst,” Adcock said.

“The proposal for this new TACN tower will provide better reception of communications that will directly benefit the city of Liberty and Dowelltown in the event of an emergency. This TACN tower will serve our local agencies such as the DeKalb County Fire Department that provides fire protection services for the communities, DeKalb County EMS (ambulance service) that provides emergency medical services, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, and will also provide for communications to all state agencies including but not limited to, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. These state agencies provide many beneficial services to our county and provide for the safety of our beloved citizens and their families.”

I would like to invite all county and state leaders that could advocate for this new improvement to the Liberty Town Hall for the City of Liberty meeting. I do believe that there were a lot of questions on the benefits and positive impact that the tower would have,” Adcock concluded.
