NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Michael Hale, R-Smithville, recently announced that the Alexandria Senior Center, Cannon County Senior Center and Smith County Senior Center have each been awarded an $8,000 state grant to advance senior center projects in their communities.
The funds are part of a $1 million appropriation that was approved by the Tennessee General Assembly earlier this year and administered by the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD).
“These grants will provide important support to local senior centers and the citizens they serve,” Hale said. “I appreciate TCAD Executive Director James Dunn and the entire commission for their commitment to distributing these funds accordingly. I look forward to working with them in the future to further address the needs of seniors in our communities.”
In all, TCAD awarded 125 grants to senior centers in 82 counties statewide through a competitive application process. The funds can be used to pay for operating, administrative, programming and preventive maintenance costs.
Michael Hale represents House District 40, which includes Cannon, DeKalb, Jackson, Smith and part of Wilson counties.
