The DeKalb County Board of Education elected a new chairman last Thursday night at their regular monthly meeting. Seventh District Board Member Shaun Tubbs was elected to the seat, succeeding First District Member Danny Parkerson who wanted to step down from the position after his term was up. Parkerson had served as the chairman for the past two years. Tubbs will serve a one-year term, while Parkerson will remain as a board member.
Third District Member Jim Beshearse was also elected as Vice Chairman at the meeting, with Sixth District member Jason Miller serving as the board’s Tennessee Legislative Network (TLN) representative.
Each September the board reorganizes and elects officers to serve one-year terms.
Also during the meeting, Director of Schools Patrick Cripps presented his monthly personnel report.
Jaimie Bloise has been hired as an Educational Assistant at Smithville Elementary School to replace Melinda League who has resigned from that position.
Leave of absence requests were Vickey Barrett of DeKalb West School; Megan Carroll and Kristen Rowland of Northside Elementary School, and Joseph Green and Jessica Griffith of DCHS.
