Radiothon for Project Graduation, April 10

This event will be on WJLE you can call in and donate to the Senior Class of 2023. Project Graduation is a way to keep our Seniors safe and to be able to have fun with their fellow classmates. The radiothon will be on the radio from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Just call 615-597-4265 to donate at the hours listed.

 

Sobriety Checkpoints

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint on April 7 on US 70 in DeKalb County. Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States. Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Troopers will target those who operate a vehichle while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists. The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visiable and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.

 

Egg My Yard Fundraiser

An Egg My Yard fundraiser is being held with proceeds to go to the Last Minute Toy Shop. Book your spot today. Let the Bunnies deliver and scatter candy-filled eggs in your yard for Easter morning. To be delivered April 8 from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m.. Surprise your kids, friends, or neighbors with some Easter morning fun. This is for DeKalb County only! The deadline to order is March 29. The United Daughters of the Confederacy Meeting, April 7

Captain Sally Tomkins 2123 will have its monthly meeting Friday, April 7, 2023. The time and place is changed for this month. Meeting at 12 noon at the American Legion on 121 S. Church street in Livingston. Brink a sack lunch.

 

Public Works Committee Meeting, April 18

The Public Works Committee will be meeting April 18, in the lower courtroom to discuss the convience sites closed on Sundays.

 

Parkinson’s support group

The next meeting will be held April 4, 2023. We meet at Caney Fork Baptist Church, 2404 Hwy, 70E., Cookeville. Buckeye Medical will speak on equipment that can help us in daily life. Call Laura at 931-319-0309 with any questions.

 

Narcissist Support Group

A 12-step support group for narcissist abuse will be held every Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Community Complex in the art room. This is a free support group and you are encouraged to attend if you are, or have been, a victim of narcissist abuse.

Are you raising a relative child or need housing assistance? Walk Across Tennessee Starts April 3

The annual Walk across Tennessee competition kicks off April 3. Get your teams of up to 8 people organized. Don't like to walk? No problem....you can do any type of exercise! The goal is for your team to log 500 miles (the length of Tennessee) total during the 8 week competition. You do not have to exercise with your team members. Here are the steps:

*Find a total of up to 8 people to get on a team. Eight is not required, but the more you have, the more mileage your team will have.

*Choose a team Captain. Team Captain should download the registration information at https://dekalb.tennessee.edu/ . Packets are also available to pick up at our office located in the DeKalb County Complex Building Middle Door.

*You are encouraged to attend the Kick Off on Monday, April 3 at Green Brook Park in Smithville at 6 p.m.

*On April 13 start to..EXERCISE! Any type of exercise works! Download the conversion chart for mileage at the above link.

Craft/Bake Sale

A Craft/Bake Sale will be April 1 at the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. sponsored by the women of the church to help with the ministries. Items include arts and crafts, candy, pies, cakes, casseroles, gift baskets, and many other items.

 

Grief Support Meetings

Grief can be one of the hardest processes you’ll ever have to go through. But you don’t have to do it alone. Come join them for a completely FREE, 8-week program to help you process your grief in a healthy manner.

They will be having day and evening classes for you to choose from or come to both sessions. There’s no commitment or obligation to be at every session.

Veterans Service Officer Ready to Assist

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran's Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service.

Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610. DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this service.

UCHRA Commodity Distribution

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, April 27, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the DeKalb County UCHRA Office. Sign-up wil be available at the distribution site.

 The Upper Cumberland Human Resources Agency does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, sex, color, national origin, religion, or disability in admission to, access to, or operations of its programs, services, or activities. This project is funded by the State of Tennessee.

 

School Calendar for 2022-23 Year

The school calendar is set for the 2022-23 yearDeKalb County students and teachers will have a full week off for fall break October 17-21, Thanksgiving November 21-25, and a two week break for Christmas, December 21 to January 4. December 20 will be an abbreviated day. Students will return to school after the Christmas holiday on January 5, 2023. Schools will also be closed for Labor Day, September 5, Dr. Martin Luther King Day, January 16, President’s Day February 20, and Good Friday, April 7. The last day of school will be May 24, 2023. Report cards will be issued at all schools on October 10, January 9, March 14, and May 24. Parent teacher conferences will be held at DCHS from 3-6 p.m. on October 10 and March 14 and at all the other schools, DWS, NES, SES, and DMS from 3-6 p.m. on October 13 and March 16.
