Woman arrested after trying to smuggle drugs into jail

Several people were arrested by the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department last week, including one woman who had a creative way of trying to smuggle contraband into the DeKalb Jail.

According to DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray, Tabatha Marie Pasley, 31, of McMinnville was charged on Feb. 10 with contraband into a penal institution.

On Feb. 7, 2025, about 4:07 am, a female correction officer was doing a strip search on an inmate, Pasley, and told her to to squat and cough. However, she did not cough hard enough. The correctional officer told her to cough harder. When Pasley did cough hard enough a purple container shot out of her vagina. The container held 11 peach colored pills believe to be Suboxen.

William Justin Goodman, 35, of Smithville was arrested on Feb. 15, 2025 and charged with public intoxication.

A deputy made contact with Goodman sitting on the steps of Mt. Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church. He had slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and had an odor of alcohol. He admitted to having consumed alcoholic beverages and narcotics prior to walking from his home on Hodges Road.

Paul Douglas Shackelford, 54, of Liberty was arrested Feb. 17 and charged with reckless endangerment. 

A deputy responded to a possible domestic at College Street in Liberty. Upon arrival and speaking to everyone, it was determined that Shackleford had displayed a handgun in the direction of one the subjects.

Ricoryon Lamontez Henderson, 22, of Murfreesboro was arrested on a sealed indictment. His total bond is $85,000.  Issued Nov. 19, 2024 for aggravated burglary, habitation, burning personal property land and theft up to $1,000 and two assault/threat of bodily injury.

Daniel Derrick Hill, 45, of Smithville was arrested on Feb.19 from a sealed indictment charging him with two counts of methamphetamine mfg/sell/poss/deliver with the intent from April 25, 2023. His bond was set at $100,000, and he is to appear in court April 28.

Elijah Thomas Hall, 23, of Smithville was arrested Feb. 20, 2025 for driving on a revoked driver’s license second offense.

A deputy witnessed a brown Ford Ranger, on Short Mountain Hwy., failed to maintain its lane of travel. The deputy made contact with the driver who said he had a restricted license. However, when checking thru dispatch it was revealed that Hall had a previous driving on revoked and had a prior conviction.

Jeffery Lee Bates, 55, of Smithville was arrested for public intoxication.

On Feb. 20, a deputy responded to Sparta Hwy. for a wellness check on a male laying face-down in a ditch. He smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet.

Kelsey Elizabeth Steinbach, 26, of Smithville was arrested Feb. 23 and charged with possession of schedule 1 drug.

A deputy responded to Walmart in an attempt to locate Steinbach who had two active warrants for her arrest. He located her and placed her into custody. She was wearing a purse at the time of her arrest and stated that there was acid inside the purse. Upon a search, the deputy found a single colored stamp believed to be LSD was located inside a clear plastic baggy.
