The 17th Annual “Christmas on the Square” will be held Thursday, Dec. 6 on Smithville Public Square

The Christmas season is nearly upon us which means it’s almost time to celebrate Christmas on the Square! This holiday event will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. on the Smithville Public Square.

❖ Courthouse Open House – Stop by to visit the elected county officials and enjoy the refreshments and a festive atmosphere.

❖ A FREE Photo Booth & Christmas DJ Music – Enjoy your favorite holiday music throughout the night plus have a fun, complimentary picture made at the Cosmo Creations Photo Booth located inside the Courthouse & sponsored by the City of Smithville!

❖ Smithville City Hall – Lots of indoor and outdoor Christmas lights & decorations to see as you enjoy cupcakes, cookies, and hot chocolate with city officials and staff.

❖ Chamber Office – Stop by and let your child drop off their letter in Santa’s mailbox. Or, your child can write a letter to Santa that night. The Chamber will have everything you need!

❖ The Smithville First Baptist Church Christmas Choir will begin singing at 5 PM and sing 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off until 7:15 PM on the west side of the Courthouse.

❖ Tree Lighting Ceremony & Flag-Raising – Beginning at 5:35 PM on the west side of the Courthouse, Boy Scout Troop #347 will have a Flag-Raising Ceremony. Then, it’s time to start the countdown for the Lighting of the Downtown Christmas Tree.

❖ Justin-Potter Library - Beginning at 6:15 PM, Santa will be there to hear your child’s wish list and pose for a picture, so be sure to bring your camera. Children will also be able to make a Christmas ornament!

❖ Smithville Electric – The lights will be shining bright at Evins Park’s Open-Air Stage decorated by Smithville Electric employees.

❖ “The Day Before Christmas” cast of characters, from the upcoming play directed by Josh Issac, will be roaming the square.

❖ Downtown Stores’ Beautiful and “Live” Display Window Contest & Christmas Shopping – Many of our downtown windows will have “live” models in their beautifully, decorated windows from 4:30 to 6:00 PM and extended hours for shopping. Take pictures and post your favorites on Facebook. Smithville Mayor Josh Miller is personally donating $250 to the winning store’s favorite charity. There will also be lots of specials making it a great night to pick out wonderful and unique Christmas presents! Participating stores include the following stores and themes: DeKalb County Florist – Frozen, The Vintage Owl and Old Timers’ Antiques on Walnut – Old Fashion Christmas, Jamie A Boutique – Sugar Plum Fairy Music Box, Button Willow General Store – Home for the Holidays, Fluty’s – The Grinch, Savvy Scrubs – Snowmen, Monogramming by Sherri – Waiting for Santa, D & D Fashions – Elf on the Shelf, The Market on Main.
