Five students from DeKalb West and DeKalb Middle schools placed in the Top 10 from the Upper Cumberland Region at the Tennessee Middle School Math Contest. DWS 6th graders Leyton Scarbrough ranked second while Ethan Brown placed 10th. DMS 7th graders Chase Vaughn and Ethan Spears and DMS 8th grader Kora Kilgore also placed in the Top Ten.
Other students who were selected to participate in the April 8 virtual event from DWS were Kenson Moss, Bradley Pelham, Emily Young, and Thomas Damron from the 8th grade; McKenna Miller, Autumn Dies, Korbin Hill, and Johnathan Keith from 7th grade; Jesse Foutch and Jennifer Fortune, 6th grade. From DMS students chosen were 6th grade students Marianna Amaya, Tucker Webb, Carly Thomas, Kinley Niehuus; 7th graders Cali Agee, and 8th graders and Madeline Martin, Emily Robinson, and Andrew Dakas.
The contest was held in three grade divisions for students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Approximately 150 students from the Upper Cumberland counties took the one-hour math quiz online.
