The Total Solar Eclipse was certainly all the big news around Tennessee last week. We enjoyed viewing it right from our back yard with Kathy Hendrix. Jerald and Lisa Cripps viewed while working in the hay field at Sweetwater. Tom and Georgie Cripps of Alexandria hosted a Cripps Eclipse viewing for several of their nephews. Those attending were Dwight Cripps of Dry Creek, Roger Jones, Michael Jones, and son of Murfreesboro. The group enjoyed a good meal together. Jim and Peggy Scott of Georgia enjoyed a picnic lunch and viewing at the home of Betty Jane Mullican of Dry Creek. It was a spectacular event!
At the Frazier residence they enjoyed a Red Plum Cobbler for lunch last week. We are thankful to a friend of Matilda Earls for letting us pick eight green tomatoes out of her garden for the first canning of green tomato pickle.
Bruce Malone, son of Boyd Malone of Oak Ridge, and Dr. Bruno Frazier of Atlanta visited Louise Frazier on Monday. Jeanette France came by for a visit and brought some hot peppers. Those will be canned to go into some chili for this winter. We always enjoy having good company.
DeKalb Chapter of OES No. 488 gave a nice 100-year birthday celebration at the Liberty Lodge Hall last Thursday night. They presented Louise Frazier with a 100-year birthday cake and sang the traditional birthday song. The Masons pinned the beautiful Widow’s Pin on Mrs. Frazier. Many delicious refreshment were served. Thank you all for such a nice celebration. We always enjoy being a part of the Eastern Star.
We are sorry to report that Mr. James Hale of Goodlettsville, and former land owner in the Dry Creek Valley, has passed away at the age of 89. He had been in a nursing home near his son, Randy Hale, for the past several years. We extend sincere sympathy to the Hale family. We always loved James and his late wife Mary.
The Dry Creek Baptist Church has a fish fry coming up on Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. The group will enjoy fellowship and singing by the Gaw family.
We send love and get-well wishes to our dear friends Delores Jones, Georgie Hawker, Nolan Turner, and Danny Agee.
Isaiah 30:15: For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Isreal; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be you strength.
