I recently overheard a conversation between my husband and brother-in-law concerning building construction. Now, I usually don't pay much attention to their conversations since I am almost completely inept when using a tape measure or ruler (my dad used to say I'd mess up a cup of coffee). But a statement made by my husband caused me to stand completely still as I comprehended a deeper meaning. “Water will make a way in if you don't seal it real good; it will always find a way. That simple statement spoke volumes to me.
None of us are immune to sin; none of us are perfect. Indeed, we were born into sin thanks to Adam and Eve. Once we have accepted Christ as our Savior, we are still not immune from sin. Although we have an advocate with the Father. Sin will always find a way to seep into our hearts. What begins as something small and innocuous such as a twinge of envy can become something cancerous, completely consuming our life and causing disruption in our spiritual life. A leak in a building, no matter how small, can cause major damage if left unchecked. So, too, our spiritual lives can fall into major trouble if we do not put on the whole armor of God. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (Eph 6:12-13)
We must use constant vigilance, girding our waist with truth, putting on the breastplate of righteousness, and waling in the gospel of peace. Most importantly, we must carry the shield of faith to enable us to “quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one”. (Eph 6:16).
Before the rains pour and you find yourself with a spiritual foundation problem causing a 'leak', seal yourself now with the salvation of Jesus Christ. It will save you from total destruction on judgment day.
