When tomorrow comes

Remember Little Orphan Annie’s song? "Tomorrow. Tomorrow. I love ya, Tomorrow. You’re always a day away." …

Tomorrow.

A recent study of longevity concluded that Americans could expect to live longer than ever before.

Tomorrow.

Retirement commercials abound. A father thinks of his son, "I hope he’s saving." The son is thinking of his father, "I hope he saved enough.

Tomorrow.

Two passengers on a train: "Big day today?" …. "Yes," the man replies. "And an even bigger one tomorrow."

Tomorrow.

We think we always have tomorrow. Procrastinators love tomorrow. Everything they need to do today is put off until tomorrow. I think we all have things we plan to do ‘tomorrow’. Yet we don’t make plans to meet God face-to-face tomorrow. We think we’ve got all the time in the world to make things right. We can enter a personal relationship with Christ tomorrow. We think we’ll study our Bible and pray more tomorrow.

And tomorrow just keeps getting farther and farther away.

We get so caught up in this world doing unimportant things we think are important, that we don’t take the time to talk to the one who gave His life for us. He is here now and we need to be about His business today. We can’t wait for tomorrow any more. Tomorrow may never come.

Consider Luke 12:16-

The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ so he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat drink, and be merry." ‘. But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you’

The rich man had provided a good retirement for himself. He made plans for tomorrow.

But tomorrow never came for him, just as there will be a tomorrow that does not come for you or me.

God holds tomorrow in His hands. He knows what tomorrow will bring us. What matters is that we know God whether we have tomorrow on earth or in heaven.

When tomorrow comes, do you know where you will be?

"Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away." (James 4:13-14)
