From the Mountain

We've been having cooler weather as of late and most people I've talked with like it.  Seems like that cup of coffee, be it black or with creamer, can really hit the spot and get our morning started off on the right foot.

Also, a person can get some outside work done with the temps not so hot.  I can tell a difference every day looking at the trees on the mountain as it won't be much longer till there will hopefully be some beautiful and strikingly vibrant colors of maroon, red, yellow and orange leaves to get our attention with their beauty.

Next week our weather around here to get quite a bit cooler with highs in the sixties and lows at night in the forties and possibly the thirties, and there could be frost.  I do hate to have to cope with those kinds of temperatures because I am so cold-natured.  Will have to take up my dahlias if the weather gets that cold.

Gwen Butcher doing well while talking to her last week.  Friends Mai Nell Melton and Gracie Bratcher are up to par and fairing pretty well.  I talked to Melvin Ferrell a few days ago and he and his son had been busy cutting wood.  Melvin will be "96" years old on January 9, 2025.  I'm glad he's getting the exercise, but I cautioned him not to overdo it.  He laughed and said he was taking his time.  We all need to follow his example to stay fit.  Got to converse with Ann Warren on Wednesday evening of last week.  Ann has been under the weather but is feeling a lot better.  Her birthday is Friday, October 11th.  She'll be treated with a good meal served up by her family.

I'm sure it will be a grand celebration with cards, gifts, etc. to make her day special.  Love you, Ann, and hope your birthday is a good one.

All eyes are looking at hurricane "Milton" that is headed for Florida and will no doubt cause death, and devastation to this already ravished area from hurricane Helene a couple of weeks ago.  They are going to catch it again.  People were warned to get out while they could, but some are staying to ride out the storm.  I pray they make it.

We have some people who are in need of prayers:  Dustin Johnson, Junior Melton, Mary Melton, Diane Evans, Walter and Faye Ferrell, Tracy Neal, Rose Watts, the people of Isarel and Ukraine, those families that lost loved ones due to hurricane Helene, and the leaders of our country.  Prayer can work wonders.

In a few weeks, those little trick or treaters will be at your door for you to treat them.  It is always fun to see the costumes they wear.  Parents, always check your kid's candy.  It is a shame that a few people put objects in the candy that could hurt a child.  Our world sure has changed since my growing up days at my homeplace.

Those were "better days" for a lot of us.  Respect for God has been thrown out the window by so many.  There is a gospel song by the Perry's called "They'll be a Payday at the end of the Road."  I think that's the name of the song.  For what we Christians have endured while living here, we know it's all going to be worth it, because someday we're going to be with Jesus for eternity when our life is over here and hey, walking streets of gold and being given a mansion to reside in is something I don't want to miss out on.  If you accept Jesus, God's son, you are promised this by God's holy word the Bible.

Have a great day!

I am the bread of life:  he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst.  John 6:35
