Let Go and Let God
Ginger Exum

We all know the phrase, “Let go and let God”; but it’s much easier said than done. It’s difficult not to worry about life. We worry about finances, our children, our grandchildren, retirement, and anything else Satan can throw at us to come between us and our Christian walk. Jesus told us plainly in Matthew 6:25, “do not worry about your life”. Many times we worry in vain about another’s life when we have no control over it. We all have our own choices to make in life. Sometimes those choices are not the way Christ would have us choose. However, we have to live with the choices we’ve made in life. When those choices have hurt us, and we repent, we still have to deal with the consequences of choices, both good and bad.

Satan loves to rub our noses in our bad choices in life. Although God has forgiven us, Satan keeps reminding us, making it difficult to forgive ourselves. In my own life the most difficult things to let go is the past; failures, anger, disappointments and regrets. The fact is, we are our own worst enemy.

“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins” (Isaiah 43:25). The problem is, Satan does not forget, and he loves to bring anything to our mind that hinders our walk with Christ. He likes to remind us of our failures and reminds us of things we should have done, but didn’t. He likes to remind us of our anger and disappointments until it becomes bitterness. We forget that we have been forgiven by Christ because we can’t forgive ourselves.

I have found that letting go is difficult. Letting go of the past doesn’t happen in one or two prayers; it has taken me years to forgive myself of some things. And some things, I’m still trying to let go. Letting go comes in stages; a little at a time. It is a continuing challenge; one that takes many, many prayers.

Letting go doesn’t mean you forget, but that you learn forgiveness, not time, heals all wounds. It isn’t easy, but life is not easy. We were not promised a life of leisure and ease, but that we would never walk alone. In those times Satan is reminding you of your past, run to Christ’s open arms, and He will carry you until you can let go.
